FINGAR CHIPS

Finger chips—also known as French fries—are a universally loved snack made from deep-fried potato sticks. Here’s a simple and classic way to make crispy finger chips at home.

Homemade Finger Chips (French Fries) Recipe

📝

Ingredients:

  • 4 large potatoes
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Water (for soaking)
  • Oil (for deep frying)
  • Optional spices: black pepper, red chili powder, chaat masala, paprika, garlic powder

🔪

Preparation:

  1. Peel and Cut:
    • Peel the potatoes and cut them into long sticks (about ½-inch thick).
    • Try to keep them uniform in size for even frying.

  2. Soak:
    • Soak the cut potatoes in cold water for at least 30 minutes.
    • This removes excess starch and helps make them crispier.

  3. Rinse and Dry:
    • Rinse the potatoes well and pat them dry with a kitchen towel. Any moisture will cause oil splattering.

🔥

Two-Step Frying Method (for Extra Crispiness):

  1. First Fry (Blanching):
    • Heat oil to about 150°C (300°F).
    • Fry the potato sticks in batches for 4–5 minutes. They should be soft but not browned.
    • Remove and drain on paper towels. Let them cool completely.

  2. Second Fry (Crisping):
    • Increase the oil temperature to 180°C (350°F).
    • Fry the pre-cooked fries again until golden and crispy (about 2–3 minutes).
    • Remove and drain excess oil.

  3. Season:
    • Toss the hot fries with salt and your favorite seasonings while they’re still hot

Serving Suggestions:

  • Serve with ketchup, mayonnaise, cheese dip, or garlic aioli.
  • For a desi twist, sprinkle with chaat masala or peri-peri spice mix.
